The
Isabel de Segura Wedding festival is a product of the imagination of Raquel Esteban. Some
attempts had been made to do something to commemorate the Teruel Lovers, but without much
continuity.
One exception is in the Centro de Iniciativas
Turísticas (CIT), that 30 years ago begun to celebrate the "Lovers Day",
but Raquel wanted something more participative and grass-roots.

Her idea was great: She say that
she think that reading some news about the festival celebrated remembering the wedding of
the Champions daughter and the Count of Carrión, in the poem "My Cid."
Why dont we do the something like that in Teruel? The raw material of the ancient
town as the backdrop of a city from the Middle Ages, and especially something unique to
Teruel: The Legend of the Lovers. |

The recipe follows:
begin with a mix of theater companies, some drum bands, add in school groups, sprinkled
with all kind of cultural associations and townspeople, all participating in a theatrical
representation, that for one weekend creates the ambiance of that far-away time of the
"Lovers of Teruel". A Middle Ages market, so popular these days, with its
jugglers, storytellers, fire-spitters and actors create a small town holiday atmosphere,
and as "main event": the street performance of the Story of the Lovers. And with
all this, the secret ingredient is the sprinkling of many small but continuous
performances that give the festival its savory thirteenth century flavor. |
